Empowering young people to make informed career choices
Malawi
Our story and purpose

From a student-led idea in Balaka to a national career-guidance organisation.

OCG grew from a practical concern: too many young people were making education and career decisions without enough information, exposure or people to guide them.

OCG Executive Director
Executive Director's Foreword

A message about education, direction and national development.

Education is the only best way to eradicate poverty. That would only be if nations employ deliberate education strategies which do not only aim at planting basic knowledge into its citizens but also knowledge which will enable them to know what careers are available to them, how they can choose their career, how they could plan their career path and probably how they will manage their chosen career.

This is crucial to a country's development in that not only does a country have citizens with clear direction of what they want to become, but also that they would be enlightened with information of careers that need to be considered depending on the country's developmental needs. This would be done without necessarily forcing the citizens to adopt such careers. Such guidance would definitely bring a well-balanced development to nations which are both sustainable and long lasting.

As an underdeveloped country, and as a Country which host an office for Guidance Counselling and Youth Development Centre for Africa, Malawi cannot be spared from being encouraged to fully embrace issues or policies of career guidance if its high rates of poverty characterised by high youth's unemployment rate among others is to vanish. Such step will be a long-time benefit to the Malawi nation which mainly dreams to end poverty among its growing number of citizens.

The coming in of the Organization for Career Guidance through its legal permission to operate in the country under the Malawi laws will help citizens realize their potentials and use their abilities, skills and interests in order to achieve greater academic heights and their future dream in the fight against poverty in the Country.

Lastly, the Organization would be very grateful to collaborate with any well-wishing individual(s) or Organization(s) which share in its mission and vision for the betterment of the Malawi youths, Malawi nation and the world at large.
